Lela Gail Sheasby’s Biography

Lela Gail Sheasby resided in New Orleans most of her life. For twenty years she has painted her impressions of that vibrant city known for its history and architecture. She and her husband, Al, decided recently to make Hot Springs their home. This area is where her ancestors and mother and father lived. She has returned to a place where she can paint the landscape and people that she frequently visited as a child.

Her training under the late New Orleans artist and sculptor Carl Cramer, classical-style artist Greg Chappel, the Delgado College Art Department, as well as Ovita Goolsby at National Park Community College, have refined her style and techniques.

Although she paints many subjects, her interests are wildlife, architecture and landscapes. She strives to put excitement and movement into her work, hoping her viewers feel emotion or nostalgia when looking at her paintings. Her composition and design provides each painting with its own unique personality.
