Bonnie Ricci’s Biography

Bonnie Ricci’s creativity is exhibited in all facets of her life.  Whether it is planning a meal, entertaining guests or creating her paintings, color combinations and sense of balance are always part of her thought process as she prepares and develops the finished product.

Her art career began as a child in Chicago, IL when she was constantly sketching all varieties of subjects.  Her skill was obvious at an early age and her parents encouraged her and arranged for private tutoring, where she experimented with oils, pastels, conte crayons and watercolors.   Bonnie learned color composition, texture and creation of artwork that would be appealing to the trained eye as well as the untrained eye at an early age.

Her skills were enhanced by taking art classes throughout high school and community colleges.   Her passion for painting was fostered through these classes.  Life began to interfere with her passion for painting.  Marriage and earning a living became a priority.  Paint supplies were placed on a closet shelf.

A new priority arrived in 1982, motherhood.  She combined the same passion and creativity in raising her son, Mike, as she did with her painting and other artistic outlets.

In 1987 Bonnie and her family moved from Chicago to Plymouth, MN.  While still a full-time mother, her passion for art began to surface anew by volunteering at Mike’s schools in their art classes. This allowed her to experience 2 of her passions simultaneously, motherhood and art.

In 1996, Bonnie was encouraged by her family to rekindle her pursuit of becoming an accomplished artist.  She joined the Minnetonka Center for the Arts (MCA) in Wayzata, MN, where she studied color theory, perspective, drawing and watercolor.  She studied under Terry Genesen-Becker who taught her more about composition and mentored her in all areas.  She was encouraged to learn everything she could about her subject before committing paint brush to paper. Her work quickly began to excel.  Her knowledge of her painting subject is most evident when viewing Bonnie’s floral paintings.

Bonnie’s watercolor paintings were juried into several exhibitions at MCA, including “The Minnesota Watercolor Society” Spring Exhibition in 1999, judged by the late internationally renowned artist, Zoltan Szabo and “Art For Life” in 2004, a juried exhibit by artists who have experienced breast cancer.

Bonnie was also a member of “The Plymouth Fine Arts Council” in Plymouth, Minnesota and a member of “Hennepin Artists of Robbin Gallery” in Robbinsdale, Minnesota.  Bonnie participated in several workshops taught by various Minnesota artists, among them; Karen Knutson and Carol Gray (now residing in Colorado).  Bonnie has also completed numerous commissions, including designing and painting wedding invitations and note cards.

In March, 2009, Bonnie and her husband Michael relocated to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas.  Bonnie is a member of “Brush Strokes” in Hot Springs Village and “Artists Workshop Gallery” in Hot Springs.  When not working in her studio, Bonnie and her husband can be found on one of the beautiful golf courses within Hot Springs Village.
