Bonnie Ricci’s Biography

History

Bonnie Ricci was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois.  Her drawing skill was obvious at an early age and her parents encouraged her and arranged for private tutoring, where she experimented with oils, pastels, conte crayons and watercolor.   She continued studying painting at community colleges in the Chicago area.  Her passion for painting was fostered through these classes.  Life began to interfere with painting.  Marriage, earning a living and being a mom became priorities and paint brushes were placed on a closet shelf.

Bonnie moved to Plymouth, Minnesota in 1987.  After volunteering for many years at her son’s school art programs, she was encouraged to formally pursue her passion for art.

In 1996 she joined “The Minnetonka Center for the Arts” (MCA) in Wayzata, MN where she studied drawing, perspective, color theory, pastels and watercolor.   Bonnie discovered that she loved watercolor painting and it became her medium of choice.   She was drawn to the glowing transparency of watercolor as well as the “happy adventures” that occur when paint is put to paper.  She was also a member of the “Hennepin Artists of Robbin Gallery” in Robbinsdale, MN, the “Plymouth Fine Arts Council” and the “Minnesota Watercolor Society”.

Bonnie’s watercolor paintings were juried into several exhibitions at MCA, including “The Minnesota Watercolor Society” Spring Exhibition in 1999, judged by the late internationally renowned artist, Zoltan Szabo and “Art for Life” in 2004, a juried exhibit by artists having experienced breast cancer.  Bonnie completed several commissions, including designing and painting wedding invitations.  Her paintings hang in private collections in Illinois, Minnesota, Louisiana, New York, Florida and Arizona.

Today

Bonnie and her husband retired to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas in 2009.  Bonnie quickly became involved in the arts community.  She joined Brush Strokes fine art club in HSV and served as vice president during 2011.  She is serving as president for 2012.  Bonnie became a member of “Artists Workshop Gallery” in Hot Springs.  She served as secretary for 2010 and 2011.  She has assumed the position of chairperson for 2012.

Bonnie is grateful for the opportunity to pursue her passion for art in such a supportive community.  Since moving to HSV, she has had the opportunity to attend several workshops with local and nationally recognized artists.  Doing so has allowed Bonnie to move outside her comfort zone.  She recently has worked in pastels, water media collage, abstract painting and paper based jewelry.  She continues to create new work with inspiration from the wonderful resources available in her surroundings.
