Don Pohlman’s Artist Statement

Don’s been painting artistically for several years since retiring in Arkansas.   He finds painting to be an enjoyable pass-time as well as relaxing.   He uses mixed-media to produce art that surely catches the eye of modern residential and commercial interior designers.   Don is a visual person and likes to create pictorial images with his story-telling.   This also translates over to his painting.   He says that his objective with each piece of artwork is to start a story,  and he leaves the finishing of the story to the observer.

Specializing in contemporary abstract and multi-media collage, Don utilizes acrylic products of various types, along with a variety of other materials and application tools, to develop the bold textures that enhance the rich colors very dominant in each of his works.   His paintings are not meant to blend in when hung on a wall  ~  they’re meant to be a color accent piece that would enhance any contemporary interior design.

Don studied architecture in school and has studied artistically in recent years with Bruce Marion, Carrie Burns Brown, Penny Petersen, Jim Oberst, Gary Weeter, Ann Baldwin, Virginia Cobb, Jacqueline Sullivan, and Ovita Goolsby.   In addition to being a member of Artists Workshop Gallery,  he is a member of the Hot Springs Village Brush Strokes artists club.

He has exhibited locally at Garvan Woodland Gardens, Mountain Valley Water Company, Woodlands Civic. Center, Coronado Center, DeSoto Center and Artists Workshop Gallery.
