Nita Calamaio’s Biography

Nita Calamaio recently moved to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas from Jackson, Mississippi. She was a charter member of the Gaddis Group Gallery in Jackson where she began painting under the tutelage of John Gaddis, AWS. Nita is a native of Memphis, Tennessee. She has degrees from Wichita State University in French and Art History. Nita's preferred medium is watercolor and she is interested in a variety of subject matter, particularly scenes from her travel, sports, and still lifes. Frequent painting trips have taken her abroad to Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Britain.


Her paintings are a way to express and enhance her interests in life. She has attended workshops by American watercolor artists Don Andrews, Skip Lawrence, Pat Deadman, Ton VanHasselt in Maine, and Frank Webb in France.


Nita Calamaio's work may be seen in many homes, government, corporate, and private offices throughout the country.
